Call to Order and Land Acknowledgement

Councillor K. Principe called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, and acknowledged that Community and Public Services Committee meets on the traditional land of Treaty 6 Territory and Métis Homelands. The Chair also acknowledged the diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors' footsteps have marked this territory for centuries such as: Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, as well as Métis and Inuit, and now settlers from around the world.

Councillor K. Principe conducted roll call and confirmed the attendance of Members of Community and Public Services Committee.

Councillors M. Janz, A. Stevenson, K. Tang and J. Wright; and C. Martin, B. Webster and T. Orbell, Office of the City Clerk, were also in attendance.

Community Safety and Well-Being 2023 Funding

  1. That the Social Development branch 2023 operating expenditure budget be increased by $500,000 on an ongoing basis to fund the increase to the Indigenous Operating Grant, with funding from the Community Safety and Well-being funds held within Financial Strategies. 
  2. That remaining 2023 CSWB funding of $4,313,000 be returned to Financial Strategies and remain unallocated in order to generate surplus 2023 budget to partially offset the City of Edmonton projected 2023 tax-supported operating budget deficit. One-time Anti-Racism Strategy funding of $350,000 will remain in the City Manager’s Office.
