Call to Order and Land Acknowledgement

Mayor A. Sohi called the meeting to order at 9:31 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2022, and acknowledged that City Council meets on the traditional land of Treaty 6 Territory. The Chair also acknowledged the diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors' footsteps have marked this territory for centuries such as: Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, as well as Metis and Inuit, and now settlers from around the world.

Licenses for Rental Providers and Public Access to Information (M. Janz)

Councillor M. Janz stated that at the next regular meeting of City Council, he would move the following:

That Administration explore measures needed to be taken on:

1. establishing licenses for landlords (e.g. short-term and long-term rental providers such as AirBnb), and
2. increasing property tenants’ access to such information. Include an analysis of the costs, implications, the pros and cons of implementing each option and outline potential approaches to funding the program to Community and Public Services Committee by April 2022.

Fines and Penalties for Excess Vehicle Noise (M. Janz)

That Administration provide a report to Committee with options to significantly increase the fines and penalties for personal vehicles creating excessive noise including the feasibility of vehicle prohibitions such as a ban on noisy vehicles (including motorcycles) in certain areas.
