Deputy Mayor K. Principe called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2023, and acknowledged that City Council meets on the traditional land of Treaty 6 Territory and Métis Homelands. The Acting Chair also acknowledged the diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors' footsteps have marked this territory for centuries such as: Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, as well as Métis and Inuit, and now settlers from around the world.

Deputy Mayor K. Principe conducted roll call and confirmed the attendance of Members of City Council.

Mayor A. Sohi and Councillors T. Cartmell and A. Paquette were absent with notice.

Councillor M. Janz was absent without notice for a portion of the meeting.

Deputy Mayor K. Principe, on behalf of City Council, recognized November 16 as Louis Riel Day, which marks the anniversary of the execution of Louis Riel in 1885, and in his death, the government ensured his memory and message for Metis rights would live. The City of Edmonton proudly flies the Métis flag year-round as a symbol of our commitment to strengthening relationships with this distinct nation. 

Deputy Mayor K. Principe, on behalf of City Council, recognized November 20 as Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honours the memory of trans and gender-diverse people, whose lives were lost to acts of transphobic violence and affirmed the City of Edmonton commitment to fostering a place where all people feel welcomed and cared for.
