Councillor T. Cartmell called the meeting to order at 9:32 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2022, and acknowledged that Community and Public Services Committee meets on the traditional land of Treaty 6 Territory. The Chair also acknowledged the diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors' footsteps have marked this territory for centuries such as: Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, as well as Metis and Inuit, and now settlers from around the world.

Councillor T. Cartmell conducted roll call and confirmed the attendance of Members of Community and Public Services Committee. 

*Mayor A. Sohi is a Committee Member pursuant to section 15(3), Council Committees Bylaw 18156.

Councillor M. Janz was absent for a portion of the meeting due to technical issues.

    Potential Relaunch of the Africa Centre Facility Project
    That Administration work with the Africa Centre to provide a report to Committee to explore various impacts and implications to consider relaunching the Africa Centre Facility Project, including but not limited to; Business Case development, public engagement, funding strategies with other levels of government and partnerships with other community stakeholders. Any required resources to start this work would be supported through the existing Anti-Racism Strategy or Community Safety and Well Being funds allocated to Administration to advance efforts making Edmonton an equitable, inclusive and safe place.

    That Administration work with C5 (Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, Boyle Street Community Services, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre and Terra Centre) to bring a funded service package to the 2023-2026 operating budget deliberations to increase operational subsidies to C5 by $200,000 per year for a total of $500,000 per year for a total of $2,000,000.
