Call to Order

 

 

 

Mayor D. Iveson called the meeting to order at 9:33 a.m., and acknowledged that Council is meeting on the traditional land of Treaty 6 Territory, and he also acknowledged the diverse Indigenous peoples whose ancestors' footsteps have marked this territory for centuries such as: Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, as well as Metis and Inuit, and now settlers from around the world.

Public Urination (S. McKeen)

 

 

 

That Administration provide a report on the following:

·         The number of public urination tickets given out during the Oilers playoffs.

·         An explanation of where the responsibility rests for enforcing bylaws or laws against public urination be it with peace officers, bylaw officers or police officers.

·         Any practical remedies in place already to deal with this problem, inside or outside Rogers Place.

·         Advice to the downtown residents on how to register active complaints, given the ambiguous answers from police and 311 operators.

·         A historical practice at other City facilities that host major events.

1.    developing a firm proposal for a Community Wellness Centre, including program statement and site location, designed to achieve the following outcomes:

a.    Reducing crime and social disorder in core neighbourhoods,

b.    Optimizing the use of policing and health care resources in serving vulnerable persons experiencing homelessness, mental illness and addictions challenges and,

c.    Delivering a strategic approach to transition Wellness Centre clients and other agency clients into Supportive Housing and treatment programs.

2.    invitation to existing service providers to partner and co-locate/consolidate into a renovated or purpose-built Community Wellness Centre building,

3.    solicitation of support and financial commitments from philanthropic and government sources for both construction and operation of a Community Wellness Centre.
